
Late Murtala Mohammed
The Northern Regional Minister, Ali Adolf John has announced that the mortal remains of the late Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Dr Mohammed Ibrahim Murtala is expected to be airlifted to Tamale today Thursday, August 7, 2025, for burial in line with Islamic tradition.
The Minister on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, visited the family of the late National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for the Tamale Central constituency to formally convey the saddened news of his passing in the tragic military helicopter crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.
In a sorrowful tone, the Regional Minister narrated the unfortunate incident to the family and also informed them of the government’s plans to convey the body from the morgue in Accra to Tamale tomorrow for burial.
Ali John further pledged the government’s commitment to giving the late MP a befitting burial and a dignified funeral.
Meanwhile, the lawmaker was one among eight government officials including the country’s Minister for Defense, Dr Edward Omane Boamah who lost their lives in the gruesome incident.
Others who have been confirmed dead in the crash are Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna, the Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, and Samuel Aboagye a former NDC Parliamentary Candidate, and Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of NDC.
The crew members are Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
