As part of the 2025 Navy Memorial Day Celebration, themed “Sacrifice, Service, and Sovereignty: The Legacy of the Ghana Navy,” the Western Naval Command (WNC) Medical Reception Station (MRS) organized a free medical outreach for residents of Sekondi and its environs. The event took place on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at the Sekondi Methodist School Park.
The initiative aimed to improve access to healthcare for underserved populations and reduce the prevalence of preventable diseases through screenings and education. Hundreds of residents benefited from free medical checks for conditions like HIV/AIDS, prostate cancer, breast cancer, hypertension, and diabetes. The Western Naval Command Medical Team provided medical screenings, health advice, and preventive education.
Additionally, beneficiaries were sensitized on the importance of enrolling in the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to ensure continued access to healthcare.
Some community members were even registered on the scheme for free. The outreach not only brought smiles to the community but also strengthened trust and mutual relationships between the Navy and residents, promoting healthier living.
Many community members expressed gratitude for the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful. The free medical outreach aligns with the Ghana Navy’s commitment to enhancing civil-military relations and supporting national health priorities through community service.
The event was attended by the Command Operations Officer, Western Naval Command, Capt (GN) Michael Cudjoe, senior officers, Navy medical personnel, and local community members.
