First Lady of the Republic of Ghana, Mrs. Lordina Mahama, has called on global leaders to take decisive action to protect and empower children worldwide. Speaking at the 7th Annual Prayer Service for Children at the United Nations’ Tillman Chapel in New York on Monday, September 22, 2025, she emphasized the urgent need to address the challenges facing children in conflict zones, humanitarian crises, and vulnerable communities under this year’s theme, “A Moment of Hope.”
The First Lady highlighted the devastating impact of wars, conflicts, and crises on children, noting that they are often robbed of their childhood, exposed to trauma, and forced into situations beyond their control.
“Across the world, children lose parents, homes, and dreams when nations fail to implement policies that protect families and nurture youth,” she said, stressing that Africa bears a significant share of this burden.
Mrs. Mahama called for collective action and prayer, urging leaders to seek wisdom in making decisions that foster peace, stability, and development for children everywhere. She referenced Proverbs 9:10:
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding,” highlighting the need for divine guidance in leadership.
Drawing on Jesus’ teachings in Matthew 19:14 and Chapter 18:3, she emphasized the importance of protecting children and learning from their innocence, humility, and purity.
In her prayer, Mrs. Mahama asked God to provide protection, comfort, food, shelter, education, and opportunities for growth to vulnerable children, while blessing those who dedicate their lives to their welfare.
She reaffirmed her commitment, alongside that of the Ghanaian government, to implement policies that safeguard children and prepare them for a brighter future.
The service, organized by World Vision International, brought together faith leaders, diplomats, and child advocates from across the globe, reinforcing the shared responsibility to protect, educate, and empower children.
Among those in attendance were the Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Administration and Finance and Technical Advisor to the First Lady, Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, as well as officials from the Lordina Foundation.
