The Ghana Police Service has arrested a woman suspected of stealing a newborn baby from the Mamprobi Polyclinic in Accra.
The incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday, February 17, shortly after the child’s mother delivered through a cesarean section at the facility. According to reports, the suspect allegedly posed as a nurse, entered the ward, and made away with the baby.
CCTV footage that later surfaced on social media showed a woman dressed in what appeared to be a nurse’s uniform carrying a baby wrapped in cloth while leaving the premises. The video sparked public outrage and heightened tension at the facility, with anxious relatives and residents demanding immediate action.
Following swift investigations, police tracked down and arrested the suspect on Wednesday, February 18. Authorities confirmed that the baby was found alive and has since been reunited with the mother.
The suspect remains in police custody and is assisting with ongoing investigations. Law enforcement officials say further details will be made available as the probe continues.
The incident has renewed concerns about security measures at health facilities, with many calling for stricter identification and monitoring systems to prevent similar occurrences.
