Ghanaian rap star Medikal has secured international recognition following the success of his Beyond Kontrol concert, which has been nominated for Concert of the Year at the 43rd edition of the International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA).
The landmark concert, staged at the Accra Sports Stadium, drew massive crowds and was widely celebrated for its impressive production, vibrant stage design and high-energy performances. The event has since been hailed by many as one of the most impactful live hip-hop shows held in Ghana in recent years.
IRAWMA, one of the longest-running international award schemes dedicated to reggae and world music, recognizes outstanding contributions from artistes across Africa, the Caribbean, North America and Europe. This year’s awards ceremony is scheduled to take place in Lauderhill on May 17.
Medikal’s nomination highlights not only his growing global appeal but also the increasing international visibility of Ghanaian hip-hop. The Beyond Kontrol concert, which showcased a catalogue of fan-favorite hits and featured elaborate stagecraft, has been credited with raising the bar for large-scale music events in the country.
The recognition adds to what has already been a strong year for the rapper, whose chart-topping single “Shoulder” continues to enjoy significant airplay and streaming success.
With anticipation building ahead of the awards night, fans and industry watchers alike will be eager to see if Medikal converts the nomination into a win, further cementing his place on the global music stage.
