A student of Obrachire Senior High Technical School is demanding justice after he was brutally attacked during an inter-schools athletics competition in Agona Swedru.
The incident occurred during a district-level sports event, where students from various schools had gathered to compete. The victim, identified as Fiadzigbe, sustained serious injuries, including a broken tooth and facial wounds, after he was allegedly pelted with stones amid disturbances at the venue.
According to the student, he was not involved in any confrontation prior to the attack. He explained that he had been searching for a place to sit and apply medication to his eye when chaos suddenly erupted. Moments later, he said, stones began flying in his direction.
A video circulating on social media captures the frightening scene, showing students running for safety as the violence unfolded.
The assault has been linked to students of the Swedru School of Business (SWESBUS), though investigations are ongoing to determine individual responsibility.
The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of three students in connection with the incident. Authorities say investigations are continuing, and further action will be taken as necessary.
In response, the Ghana Education Service condemned the violence, describing it as unacceptable and contrary to the spirit of sportsmanship. Education officials have also suspended ongoing inter-school sporting activities in the Central Region while security arrangements are reviewed.
The victim has called on authorities to ensure that those responsible are held accountable, stressing that such acts of violence should not be tolerated at school events.
The incident has sparked renewed concern about student safety and discipline during inter-school competitions, with many urging stricter enforcement of rules and improved security at future events.
