Ghana’s 69th Independence Day parade will once again be held at the forecourt of Jubilee House in Accra on March 6, 2026, as the government maintains its scaled-down approach to the national celebration.
The Information Services Department (ISD) has opened media accreditation for the event and urged interested media houses to submit applications by 5:00 p.m. on February 27, 2026.
In a statement signed by Acting Director Dr Winnifred N. Mahama, the department outlined strict accreditation and coverage guidelines due to limited space at the presidency. Each media house will be allocated only one accreditation slot. However, organizations with existing presidential accreditation may assign already-approved correspondents to cover the ceremony.
The parade’s return to Jubilee House follows a cost-saving decision first implemented in 2025, when the celebration was moved from the historic Black Star Square. Government officials previously indicated that hosting the event at Jubilee House significantly reduced expenditure compared to organizing it at the larger Independence Square venue.
According to the ISD, accreditation requests must be submitted through official letters from media organizations, including the names and contact details of assigned personnel. Accreditation badges will be non-transferable, and latecomers risk being denied entry.
Photographers and videographers are expected to report by 6:45 a.m. for security screening and positioning. Movement will be restricted during key moments such as the national anthem and the presidential address. The use of drones and other aerial devices will not be permitted without prior written approval.
To facilitate broad coverage, the Presidency Communications Office, in collaboration with Ghana Television, will provide a live feed of the ceremony. Media outlets intending to carry live broadcasts are required to indicate this in their accreditation applications.
The March 6 celebration marks Ghana’s independence from British colonial rule in 1957 and remains one of the country’s most significant national events.
