The second edition of the International Coconut Festival has opened in Accra with a call on the youth to take interest in businesses along the Coconut value chain.

This year’s festival which is spearheaded by the African Coconut Group and the Ghana Export Promotions Authority with partners such as the Ministry of Food and Agriculture among others is on the theme “Repositioning Ghana’s Coconut Sector for Accelerated Industrialization”

Speaking at the opening at the Accra International Conference Centre, the Minister of Food and Agriculture (MoFA), Dr. OwusuAfriyieAkoto, in a speech read on his behalf by his deputy, Yaw Frimpong Addo said coconut is one of the tree crops that MoFA is promoting under its Food and Agriculture Development Policy.

He added that the Coconut sector has been identified by the government as a major driver of the economy into the next decades based on the economic potential of the crop, including food security, environmental protection and poverty alleviation.

For his part, Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Alan Kyeremanten, in a message read on his behalf by the Head of theGreater Accra Office, Mr. Sampson Amankwa said his outfit remains resolute in its support for the coconut sector as it adopts a multi-faceted approach to augment production through agencies such as the Ghana Export Promotion Authority.


Day 2 (Wednesday, September 21) will be marked with exhibitions and cooking competions.

Day 3 (Thursday, September 22) is expected to be marked with seminars and workshops with a presentation on “Coconut Plantation Development and maintenance culture to ensure returns on investment” and discussions on “Competitiveness of the Ghanaian Coconut Industry in the Global Coconut Market Positioning” among others.

Day 4 (Friday, September 23)

The final day of the festival will be marked with a closing ceremony with the inauguration of the SHS Coconut Model Projects and crowning of Project Ambassador Ernestina Hammond and Chief Nat Ebo-Nsarko as well as reading and adoption of resolution.


Exhibitors are showcasing coconut and coconut products to prospective buyers and business partners across the world.


The festival is bringing together divergent and towering coconut industry players from across the globe and is providing a platform to connect and serve the Ghanaian community and other international participants through the development and promotion of coconut.
