A heated debate has erupted within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the party’s 2024 Presidential Candidate, faces criticism for attempting to shift blame for the party’s electoral defeat.
Dr. Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, former Government Spokesperson, has come out swinging against Dr. Bawumia, accusing him of opportunism and disloyalty.
The controversy centers around Dr. Bawumia’s recent “Thank You Tour,” where he attributed the NPP’s loss to factors such as arrogance in leadership, high cost of living, and the unpopular Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy).
However, Dr. Boakye-Danquah has questioned Dr. Bawumia’s sincerity, pointing to his silence on key issues during his tenure as Vice President.
“He had the platform to voice his concerns but chose not to, only now trying to separate himself from the government’s shortcomings,” Dr. Boakye-Danquah said, his words dripping with disdain.
“Blaming President Akufo-Addo’s leadership alone for the economic challenges, including the cost-of-living crisis and fuel price hikes, just days before the elections, is particularly disloyal,” he added.
The criticism is a significant blow to Dr. Bawumia’s leadership credibility and raises questions about his ability to unite the party.
As the NPP looks to rebuild and regroup, Dr. Bawumia’s actions will be under intense scrutiny. Can he recover from this controversy and lead the party to victory in future elections, or will his attempts to shift blame ultimately prove to be a costly mistake?
