Kennedy Agyapong, former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, has officially declared his candidacy for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearership.
This announcement comes on the heels of his withdrawal from the party’s “Thank You” tour, citing security concerns for his supporters following a violent incident at a party event in Bantama, Kumasi.
Agyapong’s decision to contest the flagbearership is seen as a bold move, given the current political landscape within the NPP. Despite the challenges, Agyapong remains resolute in his pursuit of the party’s leadership.
“But we will also regroup ourselves and at the appropriate time, we will come out with any help that the party can provide, or enhance my chances of winning the candidacy,” Agyapong said.
“I am using this opportunity to tell you that I am going to contest. I will contest, and they should be ready. Nobody can stop me from contesting because we have contributed to the party right from the start” he added.
Agyapong’s declaration sets the stage for a potentially intense internal party contest, as he positions himself as a strong contender for the NPP’s leadership.
