
President John Dramani Mahama has emphasized that the fight against illegal mining, known as galamsey, is a long-term endeavor that requires sustained effort and determination.
Speaking at the May Day parade at Black Star Square on May 1, 2025, President Mahama acknowledged the complexity of the issue, stating, “I did not kid myself that when I come into office, I will win that fight in four months. Yet we will not give up.”
The President praised the Ghana Armed Forces and other security agencies for their progress in tackling galamsey, highlighting their crucial role in protecting the country’s natural resources.
“Our brave men in uniform are doing their best, and we will keep fighting to protect our land and water,” he said.
President Mahama reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the cause, declaring, “When it comes to the fight against galamsey, I say Aluta Continua — the struggle continues.” This statement underscores the government’s determination to address the issue, despite its challenges.
