
Australian High Commissioner to Ghana, Berenice Owen-Jones, has paid a courtesy call on Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the King of the Asante Kingdom, at the Manhyia Palace on May 9, 2025.
The visit aimed to strengthen ties between Ghana and Australia, building on their longstanding relationship through the Commonwealth and close people-to-people connections.
During the visit, Owen-Jones highlighted developmental projects undertaken in Asanteman and expressed interest in exploring future collaborations.
She extended an invitation to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to visit Australia, emphasizing that the globally acclaimed traditional leader’s presence would strengthen ties between Ghana and Australia.
Owen-Jones praised Otumfuo’s leadership, noting his inspiring role in preserving tradition while fostering development and peace.
Accompanied by Nana Ama Serwaa Bonsu, President of the Queenmothers Foundation, and Nana Serwaah Peprah, Executive Assistant to the High Commissioner, Owen-Jones’ visit signifies the strong people-to-people connections between Australia and Ghana.
The Australian High Commission in Accra, led by Owen-Jones, is accredited to nine countries in West Africa, representing over 120 million people. This diplomatic engagement underscores Australia’s commitment to promoting stability and security in the region.
The meeting with Otumfuo Osei Tutu II marks a significant step in strengthening Australia-Ghana relations, particularly in areas such as climate innovation, agriculture, and sustainable mining practices.
