The Minority Caucus in Parliament has taken a bold step by petitioning three key investigative bodies to probe the controversial dollar gift involving Sammy Gyamfi, Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board.
The petition, filed with the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), and the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, comes in the wake of President John Dramani Mahama’s decision to accept Gyamfi’s public apology and close the matter with a stern caution.
According to the Minority, the President’s decision falls short of addressing the serious implications of Gyamfi’s actions, which they believe warrant independent scrutiny. The petitioners argue that an investigation is necessary to determine whether Gyamfi’s conduct contravened public service ethics, anti-corruption statutes, or administrative protocols.
*Petitioners Demand Transparency and Accountability*
Led by Mumuni Mohammed Nurudeen, Member of Parliament for Nalerigu/Gambaga, and supported by Minority Whip Habib Iddrisu, the petitioners are calling for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the dollar gift.
They contend that the findings of these investigations should inform any conclusive decision by the President regarding Gyamfi’s future in public office.
The President’s decision to accept Gyamfi’s apology and close the matter was announced on May 14, 2025. However, the Minority Caucus has rejected this resolution, insisting that Gyamfi’s actions demand more than just a public apology.
The petitioned institutions – CHRAJ, OSP, and CID – have been tasked with uncovering the full facts of the dollar gift saga. Their investigations will determine whether Mr. Gyamfi’s actions were in line with public service ethics and administrative protocols. The outcome of these investigations is expected to shed light on the matter and potentially inform future decisions regarding Gyamfi’s tenure at the Ghana Gold Board.
