The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has extended the deadline for transitioning to the new gold trading license regime to June 21, 2025. This move gives gold traders a one-month reprieve to comply with the new regulations.
In a statement issued on Thursday, May 22, 2025, by the Media Relation Officer, Mr. Prince Minkah, GoldBod emphasized that after June 21, 2025, only holders of a valid GoldBod license will be allowed to purchase, sell, or deal in gold.
“It is worthy of note, that the license application process is an ongoing process and will continue even after the new non-extendable deadline of 21st June, 2025, save that, a person without a GoldBod license cannot trade or deal in gold in Ghana after this deadline,” the statement read.
GoldBod has also suspended the export function of licenses issued by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, effective May 22, 2025. This means that gold traders with licenses issued by the Lands Ministry can no longer export small-scale gold from Ghana.
Gold traders can apply for a GoldBod license via www.goldbod.gov.gh. The board encourages all persons desirous of trading or dealing in gold in Ghana to apply for a license to operate legally.
GoldBod warned that using a license issued by the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) after the deadline will constitute a breach of the directive and will be a punishable offense under the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (ACT 1140).
