A dramatic dawn operation was carried out by heavily armed state operatives, resulting in the arrest of Alfred Ababio Kumi, popularly known as Adenta Kumi.
The Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, confirmed the arrest, describing the incident as a “troubling” display of government power.
According to eyewitnesses, eight men, six of whom were masked and wielding AK-47 rifles, arrived at Kumi’s residence in the early hours of the morning. Two others, believed to be operatives of the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), were in plain clothes.
Assafuah expressed his concerns over the incident on social media, questioning the motives behind the government’s actions.
“These Rambo-style actions by government continue to raise concerns that border on free speech and good governance,” he wrote, adding the hashtag #FreeAdentaKumiNow.
The circumstances surrounding Kumi’s arrest remain unclear, with no official statement from the NIB or the Ministry of National Security.
However, Kumi had recently petitioned President to dissolve a committee probing the removal of the Chief Justice, citing allegations of misconduct.
