The Executive Director of the African Centre for Parliamentary Affairs (ACEPA), Dr. Rasheed Draman, has criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Majority Caucus in Parliament, stating that they appear less organized than the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Minority.
Dr. Draman made this observation on Citi FM while commenting on the recurring absenteeism among Majority Members of Parliament (MPs), which often hinders the House’s ability to form a quorum and conduct business effectively.
“It is showing that the NPP Minority looks a bit more organised than the NDC Majority,” Dr. Draman said.
He emphasized that effective parliamentary work requires consistent presence and active engagement, particularly from the governing side responsible for driving the national legislative agenda.
Dr. Draman urged the Majority leadership to demonstrate greater discipline and coordination, given their numerical advantage.
“We are waiting to see what happens in this current meeting—they just started today. The coming days will tell us whether the whip of the Majority side as well as the leadership is able to mobilise their troops and make sure [they are present] at all times,” he said.
The ACEPA boss called on the NDC Majority to put an end to absenteeism, which stalls parliamentary proceedings.
“At least they have been handed a comfortable majority. What we want to see is that they stop this whole business of absenteeism to the extent that they don’t get a quorum to do the work of their own government,” he added.
