The Supreme Court has unanimously dismissed an application filed by suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo, seeking to halt the proceedings of a presidential committee investigating petitions for her removal from office.
The court, in its ruling on May 28, 2025, allowed the committee to proceed with its investigation. The full written ruling is expected to be released on June 12, 2025.
Chief Justice Torkornoo had requested the court to issue an interlocutory injunction against the six-member committee established by President John Mahama.
She specifically sought to bar certain members, including Justices Gabriel Scott Pwamang and Samuel Kwame Adibu-Asiedu, from participating in the investigation.
The Supreme Court’s decision paves the way for the committee to continue its probe into the petitions against the Chief Justice.
