The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has taken into custody a prominent car dealer with known business ties to Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
This development was revealed by Haruna Mohammed, Deputy General Secretary of the NPP, during a media briefing.
According to Mohammed, the car dealer in question has a history of selling vehicles to Chairman Wontumi. However, the specific reasons behind EOCO’s interest in the individual remain unclear.
While it is not known whether Chairman Wontumi is a direct subject of investigation, the NPP has stated that it is closely monitoring the situation. The party has assured that it will cooperate fully with the authorities as necessary.
Attempts to obtain an official statement from EOCO have been unsuccessful thus far, leaving many questions unanswered about the nature and scope of the investigation.
