The Minority Caucus in Parliament has given the Ghana Medical and Dental Council (GMDC) a one-week deadline to provide clarity on the medical registration status of Dr. Ann Sansa Daly.
This ultimatum comes after President John Dramani Mahama revoked Dr. Daly’s appointment as a Board Member of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) amid public concerns over her professional credentials.
In a letter signed by Dr. Nana Ayew Afriyie, Ranking Member on the Health Committee, the Minority Caucus has asked the GMDC to investigate and confirm three critical aspects of Dr. Daly’s medical credentials. Firstly, they want to know if Dr. Daly is currently registered and licensed to practice medicine in Ghana. Secondly, they seek to establish whether she has ever been registered with the GMDC in any capacity, including temporary or permanent registration. Lastly, they are inquiring whether GMDC regulations permit individuals without registration to publicly present themselves as medical doctors or offer medical advice in Ghana.
The Minority Caucus has also requested that the GMDC engage its counterpart agency in the United States to verify Dr. Daly’s certification status and determine whether she is listed on their registry of certified medical practitioners. This move is aimed at ensuring transparency and authenticity in the verification process.
The Caucus emphasized that their inquiry is driven by public interest and a commitment to upholding professional standards in Ghana’s healthcare system. They stressed the importance of protecting public trust in the medical profession and ensuring that only qualified and registered individuals practice medicine in the country.
The GMDC is expected to respond within the stipulated one-week period, providing the necessary clarification and documentation to address the concerns raised by the Minority Caucus.
