Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has praised President John Dramani Mahama’s decision to institute a National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving, scheduled for July 1, 2025.
During a courtesy visit by the event’s planning committee, Akufo-Addo emphasized the importance of unity, peace, and civility in Ghana.
“All of us have to support this initiative. It is clearly a worthwhile initiative, that we have this one day where all of us come together to give thanks to the almighty for the many, many blessings he has bestowed upon us,” Akufo-Addo stated.
He acknowledged Ghana’s history of coups, yet highlighted the country’s success in avoiding civil war, making it one of the few African nations to achieve this feat.
Although Akufo-Addo will be abroad on July 1 due to prior commitments, he assured his full support for the event.
Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, Chairman of the planning committee, expressed gratitude to Akufo-Addo for his endorsement.
“He welcomed us, endorsed the whole programme and thanked the president for the great initiative. He commended us and we are very grateful,” Ankrah said.
