Dr. Bawumia
Former Vice President and the 2024 Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party(NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has received massive endorsement from NPP Members of Parliament to lead the party into the 2028 election.
The MPs, reported to be more than 60 out of the 88, pledge their support for the candidacy of Dr. Bawumia ahead of the January 2026 presidential primaries in a closed-door meeting held at his residence today Thursday, June 19, 2025.
This show of support follows the NPP’s recent decision to hold its presidential primary on 31st January 2026.Â
The move, announced after a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Tuesday, 17 June, is aimed at giving the party ample time to prepare for the next general elections and to unite around a chosen flagbearer.Â
So far, four prominent party figures have declared their intention to contest the flagbearer position: former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Assin Central MP Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Minister for Agriculture Bryan Acheampong, and Minister for Education Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum.
