
The High Court has ordered the founder and leader of Heaven Way Champion International Ministry, Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, to open her defense in a case involving the alleged sharing of nude images of a man on a private tv channel.
On Monday July 7, the Court presided over by Justice Mary Ekue Yanzuah, dismissed, an application for submission of no case filed by lawyers for Agraada, who is currently serving a 15-year prison sentence for defrauding by false pretense, in a different matter.
During court hearing on Monday morning, Richard Baffour, lead lawyer for the incarcerated repented priestess turn preacher, informed the court of their client’s current situation and requested an order for her to be brought to court from jail for the ruling. However, presiding judge, Justice Justice Mary Ekue Yanzuah, refused the request, and went ahead to deliver her ruling.
Justice Yanzuah, also ordered the defense lawyers to file their witness statements and directed prison officers to ensure that Agradaa is brought to court on the next adjourned date.
Agraada and three others are facing trial for sharing naked photos of a man contrary to cybersecurity laws.
Nana Agradaa, was charged with two counts of non-consensual sharing of intimate image, contrary to the Cybersecurity Act, in February 2023. She was charged together with four others but the fifth accused is at large. Nana Agradaa and two of her accomplices have each been admitted to bail in the sum of 100 thousand cedis with three sureties who must be family members.
The Complainant is one Prophet Emmanuel Appiah.
The facts of the case presented in court indicate that sometime in 2020 Nana Agradaa who is said to be the owner of a television station hosted a programme on the said station and intentionally showed the naked pictures of the complainant on live TV and made mockery of him.
The other accused persons who were panelists on the show Enoch Owusu Kissi a media practitioner, Charles Omane, businessman, Emmanuel Kofi Gyasi, TV Presenter and one Andy currently at large encouraged her on the course. The said programme, was also streamed live on Youtube and Facebook where a witness in the case saw it and informed the complainant about it. Nana Agradaa is also alleged to have intentionally distributed intimate images of the complainant to another person through WhatsApp.
The complainant lodged a complaint with the Police and the four accused were arrested. The case has been adjourned to July 30 for a case management conference.
