The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced that it will not participate in the rerun of elections in 19 polling stations in the Ablekuma North constituency. The rerun is scheduled for Friday, July 11, 2025.
The party at a press conference in Ablekuma North on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 demanded that the EC should follow the High court’s order on January 4, 2025 to collate the results and declare a winner.
According to NPP General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua, “The court never said go and do a rerun. The court said go, collate and declare so for us in the Ablekuma North we are resolved to go back to the court because what the EC is doing is contempt of court, illegal and unacceptable.”
The party claims to have overwhelming evidence that its candidate, Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie, won the election.
Justin Frimpong Kodua stated, “We have our overwhelming evidence to clearly show that we won Ablekuma North parliamentary election. And yesterday (Monday) when National Executives Committee met, we said under that no circumstance will we be intimidated and coerced to go for a rerun. We will not go for any rerun. The NPP will not go for any rerun, we have won the elections.”
The party demands that the EC follow the court’s order, collate the results, and declare Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie the winner of Ablekuma North. Justin Frimpong Kodua emphasized, “What we are asking the EC to do is to follow the court’s order and collate the results and declare our candidate, Nana Akua Afriyie the winner of Ablekuma North.”
The NPP has filed an application in the High Court to set aside the EC’s decision to rerun the election in 19 polling stations. The party is seeking an Order of Certiorari to quash the EC’s decision and prevent the rerun from proceeding.
The application, reads: “Counsel for and on behalf of the Applicant herein will move this Honourable Court on an application praying for an Order of Certiorari to quash the decision of the Respondent contained in a letter dated 1st July, 2025 and a press statement dated 2nd July, 2025… and for a further Order prohibiting the Respondent from proceeding to re-run the Parliamentary Election in the said 19 Polling Stations.”
