Residents of Nsawam and Amasaman on Saturday staged a protest against what they described as the continued neglect of the Ofankor-Nsawam road by successive governments. The road is a crucial transport link connecting Accra to parts of the Eastern Region.
According to the group, years of deterioration have left the road riddled with potholes and erosion, resulting in chronic traffic congestion, frequent vehicle breakdowns, and long travel times.
Commuters and businesses alike say the poor state of the road is harming economic productivity and putting lives at risk.
The demonstrators, including local residents, commercial drivers, and traders, marched through parts of the affected communities carrying placards with messages such as “Accidents Daily, How Many More?”, “Accountability Missing!”, and “Years of Dust, Delays and Broken Promises.”
Jeffrey Smith, organiser of the Nsawam Traffic Watch Community, told journalists that the communities had run out of patience.
“All we need is for the government to address our concerns. This road has been left in this terrible state for far too long,” he said.
The protest remained peaceful, with security officers deployed to ensure order.
