Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North, Ewurabena Aubynn
The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has advised the newly sworn-in Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North, Ewurabena Aubynn, to remain calm, humble, and dedicated to serving her constituents.
“Be punctual, stay calm, listen more, and learn from your colleagues”. speaker advised.
Speaking shortly after her swearing-in on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, Mr. Bagbin congratulated Ms. Aubynn and reminded her that public office is a serious responsibility.
He also encouraged her to read not only the Constitution and the Standing Orders but everything necessary to help her serve well.
“Please read everything, not only the constitution and standing orders” he said.
Mr. Bagbin also urged her to focus on serving her people and not be distracted, saying, “Four years is just a day. You will return to the same people who voted for you, and they will judge you based on what you have done. So, don’t be misled.”
The Speaker reminded her that the people of Ablekuma North are counting on her to help improve their lives, and that she must not take their trust for granted.
However, the swearing-in was not without controversy. Members of the Minority in Parliament walked out in protest. They were unhappy that their Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, was not allowed to speak before the ceremony.
Ewurabena Aubynn, who represents the National Democratic Congress (NDC), won the seat after a tense parliamentary rerun in 19 polling stations in the Ablekuma North Constituency. The Electoral Commission cancelled the original results from December 2024 due to several problems, including unsigned result forms and errors in vote counting.
In the rerun held on July 11, Ms. Aubynn secured 34,090 votes, beating her closest rival, Akua Afriyie of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who got 33,881 votes.
