
The Northern Regional Coordinating Council (NRCC) has expressed deep shock and regrets the sad news of the tragic passing of Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna, a former Northern Regional Minister and the Member of Parliament for Tamale Central constituency and Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Dr Ibrahim Mohammed Murtala.
The duo were among eight individuals who unfortunately lost their lives during the crash of a military helicopter they were traveling with to Obuasi in the Ashanti Region last week Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
”The Northern Regional Coordinating Council (NRCC) on Wednesday, 6th August 2025, received with deep shock and regrets the sad news of the demise of Government officials and crew members in a gory helicopter crash in the Ashanti region, while they were on their way to perform a national duty.”
The NRCC in a statement copied to The Custodian Online said it is deeply pained by the loss of Honourable Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, the Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation and also the Member of Parliament for the Tamale Central Constituency in our dear region.
The statement added: “Indeed, our deep pain stems from the fact that Honourable Murtala Mohammed, as a towering figure has well represented the region in both regional and national political space, in a manner that we shudder to think that we might not find someone of his calibre to replace him.”
The NRCC further extended its condolences to the bereaved families and the people of the Northern region, as the nation continues to mourn the deceased persons.
”We wish to appeal to the people of the region to mourn his death in a sombre mood devoid of excesses, which is a reflection of his personality.
”May the souls of Honourable Murtala Mohammed and the other compatriots who died in the tragic accident rest in peace” the statement prayed.
