Shatta Wale, a Ghanaian dancehall artist, has been released from the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) custody after meeting revised bail conditions.
The bail was initially set at GH¢10 million but was reduced to GH¢5 million with two sureties to be justified.
He was detained over investigations into the purchase of a 2019 Lamborghini Urus linked to proceeds of a US$4 million crime involving Nana Kwabena Amuah, a Ghanaian serving a prison term in the US.
The musician was invited to EOCO’s offices on Wednesday, August 20, to assist in investigations into the purchase of a Lamborghini Urus, which has been linked to proceeds of a US$4 million crime involving Nana Kwabena Amuah, a Ghanaian currently serving a prison term in the United States.
According to EOCO, after nearly four hours of interrogation, Shatta Wale was unable to identify who sold the luxury vehicle to him, claiming instead that he acquired it from the “street”.
“So far, Charles Nii Armah Mensah has been unable to identify the person from whom he purchased the said Lamborghini Urus vehicle except to say that he purchased it from the ‘Street’ and from someone possibly called ‘ZAK’ who may have contacted him on WhatsApp but whose identity he does not know and whose contact he has thrown away,” a statement from EOCO said.
EOCO further disclosed that the artiste does not possess any receipts or transfer documents to prove ownership of the car, except for a customs declaration document bearing the name of Nana Kwabena Amuah.
