The Coffee Federation of Ghana is calling on government, international partners, and institutions to support increased seedling production to expand the country’s coffee sector.
Speaking at the launch of the 2025 Coffee Week in Accra, Mr. Samuel Adimado, President of the Federation, said, “Our one million [seedlings] is not enough. We need to multiply. We need to move into more volumes, like how we do cocoa. Cocoa, we do over 55, 60 million seedlings. I think coffee, we can do 10 million seedlings and above.”
He highlighted that many communities previously involved in cocoa production are ready to diversify into coffee. “Introducing coffee to these communities is very easy for them to adapt because they have been doing cocoa or handling cocoa very well. So when it comes to coffee post-harvest management, it’s not a struggle.”
Mr. Adimado stressed that history and local knowledge position Ghana strategically for coffee revitalisation. “If you look at ITC website… it’s like Ghana is not captured in coffee, but we are very strategic. Strategically, we can revitalise coffee because we’re once a coffee growing economy.”
He urged all stakeholders to join the Federation’s efforts: “We invite all those gathered here, those who are not here, to join us in revitalising our coffee sector, making our coffee sector more appealing, because there’s a business case.”
