Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has assured the nation that no Ghanaian has been killed or injured amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Providing an update on the situation, Mr Ablakwa said the government is closely monitoring developments in the region and has activated measures to safeguard Ghanaian nationals living and working in affected countries.
He disclosed that he convened an emergency virtual meeting with Ghana’s ambassadors and consular officials stationed across key Middle Eastern countries to assess the security situation and coordinate protective responses.
“I am glad to report that so far, no Ghanaian casualty has been recorded,” the Minister stated, emphasizing that the safety and welfare of citizens remain the government’s top priority.
According to him, Ghana’s diplomatic missions in the region have compiled updated data on nationals within their jurisdictions and have been directed to maintain constant communication with them. Missions have also been tasked to identify individuals who may wish to return home should the situation deteriorate.
The Minister noted that contingency plans are in place to facilitate evacuations if necessary, including working with appropriate authorities to secure safe exit routes.
He further urged Ghanaians residing in or travelling to the region to remain vigilant, adhere to local security advisories, and stay in close contact with Ghana’s diplomatic missions.
The government continues to monitor the evolving conflict and has pledged to provide timely updates as the situation unfolds.
