The Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has ordered a full investigation into allegations that some police officers in Kibi were involved in the withdrawal of GH¢400,000 from a mobile money account belonging to a local agent.
The directive follows the circulation of a video on social media in which a mobile money operator accused police personnel in Kibi of facilitating the withdrawal of the large sum from his account under questionable circumstances.
In response to the claims, the IGP tasked the Ghana Police Service’s Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) to probe the allegations and determine whether any officers were involved in wrongdoing.
Police authorities say the complainant has been contacted and is cooperating with investigators as efforts continue to establish the facts surrounding the alleged transaction.
The Police Service has assured the public that the investigation will be conducted thoroughly and professionally, adding that any officer found culpable will face the appropriate disciplinary or legal action.
The case has attracted widespread public attention on social media, particularly because it concerns the alleged involvement of law enforcement officers in a mobile money transaction dispute involving a substantial amount of money.
Authorities say further details will be made available once the investigation is completed.
