Supreme Court dismisses SALL Review Application

The Supreme Court has thrown out a review application brought by lawyers of Santrokofi, Akpafu, Likpe and Lolobi, (SALL)the areas that were excluded from the parliamentary polls on the eve of the December 7 2020, general elections.

Lawyers for the interested parties led by Tsatsu Tsikata were seeking to overturn the court’s decision that permitted the Electoral Commission (EC) to gazette John Peter Amewu as the Member of Parliament-elect for Hohoe Constituency in the Volta Region.

The seven-member review panel of the Supreme Court made up of Justice Samuel Marful-Sau, Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, Justice Amadu Tanko, Justice Yoni Kolendi and Justice Henrietta Mensa-Bonsu, and presided over by Justice Yaw Appau said the application fails.

The details of the ruling will be made available at the court’s registry later in the day.

On January 4, a Supreme Court panel of five, unanimously declared as null and void an order of the Ho High Court which placed an injunction on the EC’sgazetting of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament-elect for Hohoe, Mr. John-Peter Amewu.The apex court also quashed another order by the Ho High Court which placed an injunction on the Electoral Commission (EC) from presenting Mr. Amewu to Parliament as MP-elect for Hohoe.
