Staff of the Accra East Branch of the Electricity Company of Ghana today April 26, 2021, laid down their tools for two hours (8 am to 10 am) to reiterate their demands for the removal of their Managing Director Kwame Agyeman Budu.
The staff have also hoisted huge red banners at the premises of the company bearing the inscription “ECG MD MUST GO”.
It will be recalled that a communiqué dated April 12, 2021, announced a resolution passed at a joint national executive committee meeting of both unions held at the ECG training center. In the resolution the workers described the MD as incompetent, and one without vision for the company.
These they say is evidenced by misplaced priorities leading to the unavailability of critical materials such as meters, service cables, conductors, prepaid vending accessories, maintenance equipment, among others.
The workers claimed the MD’s continuous stay at post will collapse the electricity distribution company because to them, “he is grossly deficient when it comes to matters relating to administrative and corporate governance”.
Some customers who were at the office this morning during the period of the strike, were left unattended to until the industrial action was over.
