Captain Smart, the suspended host of Angel FM’s morning show, has waded into the never ending Founder/Founders debate of Ghana. According to the outspoken journalist, Ghana’s first president Osaagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah is the founder of the country, adding that no one can change the country’s history. He was speaking in relation to the current happenings in the country arguing that the situation was not what the first president envisaged for the country.
“This is not the Ghana Kwame Nkrumah left for us. This is not that Ghana that his Excellency the Osaagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah the first president and the founder of Ghana (left for us). Nobody can change our history, nobody can change our history” Captain Smart stated.
Speaking in a Facebook live session Captain Smart questioned why the police were sent out in their numbers to the Black Starr Square to ensure that the #FixTheCountryNow campaigners did not hit the streets following a restraining order secured by the police against the protestors.
According to the broadcaster it is baffling to see attempts to prevent people from demonstrating when it was allowed under previous administrations.
“Former President Rawlings, after Kumepreko, there were dozens of demonstrations against his administration. It was a similar thing under Former President Kufuor. There were 41 demonstrations under Kufuor. Kwesi Pratt alone led 19 of those. Kufuor didn’t prevent anyone, to the extent that Kwesi Pratt said he was embarking on a one man demonstration. He (Kwesi Pratt) said he was coming to Kumasi, but when he got to Ejisu, he returned. He alone. From there, the late Professor Mills took office, he faced the same fate, he was demonstrated against. And then it got to the turn of Former President John Mahama. He was also demonstrated against” Captain Smart said.
He continued “So why is that today, people are being prevented from voicing their concerns? Why don’t we want people to demonstrate? Why don’t we want people to say what they think will be better for the country? Today I was watching TV, and I saw that different types of Police vehicles and Police officers who had been sent in their droves. But that’s not what is needed of the police. They even don’t have boots to wear. Most of their boots are worn out. If you find a police with nice boots it means he is of the ranks of a superintendent upwards. From Lance Corporal to Sergeant downwards, their shoes are all worn out. So usually they would call their colleagues in peacekeeping to buy them boots when returning. Am I lying? Common bullet proof can’t even be provided them….”
Captain Smart, is serving a 30 day suspension for excessively criticizing the Akufo-Addo led administration and making it unpopular, according to management of the Angel Group of Companies under which Angel FM falls.
