Former flagbearer hopeful of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Stephen Atubiga has reportedly run for cover and is seeking police protection.
The former NDC member, now founder and leader of the National Liberation Council in a letter sighted by NewsWire GH is requesting for assistance from the police, in the form of protection, following a number of verbal attacks and threats on him as well as some other members of the National Liberation Council.
According to the letter dated 6th September,2021 and addressed to the Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery and copied to the National Security Minister and the Acting Inspector General of Police, the attacks stem from his decision to break away from the largest opposition party in the country, the National Democratic Congress.
“Some members of the NDC have attacked me verbally on many occasions at different locations without provocation.
While the verbal abuse from some supporters has become a daily activity, the men around me have uncovered a lot of plots to attack my household. There have been several attempts to harass me while driving in traffic. Some of the times, my loyalists countered them.”
He added that some leading members and stakeholders of his opponents have confided in him to be very careful of his safety and security, hence writing to the Interior Minister for Police protection.
“I believe and have confidence in the security outfits of this country, through the good leadership of our current able President, that the NLC myself would be provided with the needed protection.”
