Former Deputy Greater Accra Regional Minister, Madam Elizabeth Sackey has been confirmed by Assembly members to become the first Accra Metropolitan Asembly (AMA) Mayor.
She received an affirmation of 100 percent ‘Yes’ votes cast from the Assembly members to confirm her position. She was confirmed today, October 7 at the AMA office.
In her acceptance speech, she expressed her profound gratitude to the Assembly members and pledged to work with all stakeholders to develop the area.
“I’m grateful to God for keeping us alive to witness this historic day. This city is endowed with numerous human and material resources that could be harnessed for the benefit of our people.
“There is a lot of work to be done and therefore this is a clarion call for all to come on board so that we can achieve our goal,” the new Accra Mayor Elizabeth Sackey said after she was confirmed.
She further stressed, “To my assembly members and the staff of the assembly that I will be working with, I will need your unflinching support”.
Meanwhile, former Accra Mayor, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye expressed his readiness to work with the new Mayor in moving Accra forward.
In attendance was the Regional Minister, Past Mayors and members of the Greater Accra Traditional Authority.
