President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said he is optimistic Ghana will emerge as the first African Country to be crowned champions of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Tournament to be staged in Qatar.
In a speech read on his behalf by the Chief of Staff, Frema Osei Opare at a dinner held on September 3, as part of a two-day tour by the World Cup trophy in the country, President Akufo-Addo said “I am of the firm conviction that Ghana will not only participate in the competition but will make the whole nation and by extension the African continent proud, with a great performance,”
“I, therefore, want to urge all Ghanaians, in conclusion, to throng the Accra Polo Court to view the trophy and to be part of history, before we finally bring the cup home on 18th December. We, who were the first to gain our freedom and independence from colonial rule, will be the first to bring the World Cup to Africa”.
The FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ will be played from 20 November to 18 December in Qatar. It will be the 22nd edition of the competition, and the first played in the Arab world.
The draw for the World Cup group phase took place in Doha, Qatar, on April 1 2022 to set the stage for the tournament.
The final three qualification places were filled in June, with Wales, Australia and Costa Rica completing the 32-team line-up.
