The deputy Minister for Railway Development, Kweku Asante Boateng, on behalf of the Railway Development minister, Hon. John Peter Amewu has inaugurated the newly constituted governing board of the Ghana Railway Development Authority (GRDA).

The 11-member board chaired by Dr. Amogre Anyanore includes: Hon. Kweku Asante Boateng (Deputy Railway Minister and Representative of the Railway Ministry), Mr. Ernest Yaw Owusu (Acting. CEO of GRDA), representative of the finance ministry, Ing. Ernest Kwame Obeng (Ministry of Roads and Highways), Mr. Michael Achagwe Luguje (Ghana Ports & Harbours Authority), Mr. Jonathan Kwasi Azasoo(National Development Planning Commission), Mr. Edwin Allotey Acquaye(Ghana Chamber of Mines), Dr. Emmanuel Adem Opoku(Ghana Cocoa Board), Mr. Fridoline Kwesi Bansah (Member), Madame Sophia Abena Tijani (Member).

In a speech read on behalf of Hon. John Peter Amewu, the ministry of Railway Development charged the board to serve faithfully and diligently in line with the Railways Act 2008 (Act 779), to make meaning of the trust and confidence reposed in them by H.E President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

“I expect that by the end of the tenure of this Board, Ghana’s poor railway infrastructure which His Excellency the President is committed to revamping and modernizing before the end of his term in office shall be achieved to a very large extent through the hard work, teamwork, and dedication.”

The Railways Act 2008 (Act 779), was passed by Parliament on 14th November 2008 and assented to the President on 6th January 2009. The passage of the Act led to the establishment of the Ghana Railway Development Authority as a regulator and asset manager to promote the development of railways and railway services in the country.
