The chief and people of Gomoa Fawomaye in the Central Region of Ghana are livid following news of the exhumation of 10 dead bodies at a cemetery in the community by a Police Officer.

According to information available to NewsWire GH, the officer had approached the chief to purchase the piece of land for a developmental project he intended working on with some partners.

But the Chief, Nana Okofo Kwakye Abeka Acquah III says he declined the offer only to still find out a day later that the said Police Officer, one Superintendent Cobby had invaded the cemetery with a number of boys to exhume the bodies.

The situation has created a lot of chaos in the community with residents demanding the return of the bodies of their loved ones immediately as well as a full state probe into the incident.

The traditional leaders of the community have given the officer, Superintendent Robert Cobby a one-week ultimatum to return the corpses or face their wrath.

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) James Oppong-Boanuh has meanwhile directed the Central Regional Police Commander to investigate the said claims by residents of Gomoa Fawomaye.

The IGP has also appealed to the chiefs and people to co-operate with the Central Regional Police Commander, DCOP Mrs. Habiba Twumasi-Sarpong in the said investigation to unravel the real reason for the actions of the said Police Officer.
