The other 19 clubs involved in the English Premier League have called for an emergency meeting concerning the taking over of Newcastle United by a Saudi-led Consortium.
The clubs who seem to less happy about the development have registered their displeasure the whole happening.
According to them, they are unaware of why the taking over happened suddenly and why they have not been informed. It was reported that clubs only learned via the media on Wednesday of the impending takeover and received confirmation from the league by email on Thursday.
As a result, the league’s chief executive, Richard Masters, and chairman, Gary Hoffman’s attention have been drawn to the fact that the clubs had no idea the Newcastle takeover was about to be approved.
Their report also states that clubs have expressed concern that the Premier League’s brand could be damaged by the arrival of PIF.
It was also reported thatthe takeover was strongly resisted by Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham, who all lobbied the Premier League to deny the Saudis entry to the top flight.
There are therefore calling for an emergency meeting during the week for such issues to be addressed.
