The Ghana Police Service says it has arrested 30-year old Bright Berchie believed to be an aide to the embattled Rev. Isaac Owusu Bempah, the Head Pastor of the Glorious Word Power Ministries International.

In a press release signed by the Director of Public Affairs, Superintendent Alexander Kwaku Obeng, the wanted Bright Berchie has been charged with the offence of threats of death, offensive conduct and the possession of a firearm without lawful authority.

The police added that Bright was seen in a widely circulated video, brandishing a weapon and issuing threats of death to police officers and other persons.

Upon his arrest, a weapon has been retrieved from him for ballistic examination to aid further investigations.

The Ghana police service has therefore assured that the suspect, Bright Berchie will be arraigned before court soon.

Background

The head pastor of the Glorious Word Power Ministries International, Reverend Isaac Owusu Bempah, and three others were arrested by the police.

This is according to a statement issued by the police on Sunday, September 12, 2021, and signed by its acting Director of Public Affairs, ACOP Kwesi Ofori.

The three other suspects are Michael Boateng, Frederick Ohene, and Nathaniel Agyekum.

They were arrested for the “creation and circulation of multiple videos containing threats, and the brandishing of a weapon and the assault of some police personnel”.

The Police say they arrested the suspects “after critically analyzing the said videos and based on intelligence gathered”.
The suspects who are in police custody will appear before court today, Monday, September 13, 2021.

Meanwhile, two other suspects are said to be on the run and are being pursued.

The injured police personnel have also received medical treatment according to the statement.
