Layer Edudzi Tameklo (L) and Whatsupp news editor, David Tamakloe (R)

Editor of Whatsupp News David Tamakloe has been granted bail after he was arrested on the eve of Good Friday. According to the police Mr. Tamakloe he was arrested on “alleged attempt to commit crime to wit: extortion contrary to sections 18(1) and 15(1) and publication of false news contrary to section 208 of the Criminal Offences act 1960 (Act 29)”. A statement from the Police CID said.

Earlier some Ghanaians including Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor  Esq, raised concerns about the Rambo-styled approach of the police in effecting the arrest as he called for the immediate release of the suspect.

“The Rambo-styled approach of effecting arrest of citizens has been a subject for concern to many. It comes as a surprise that nothing seems to be changing in this regard. Mr. Tamakloe was reported to have been picked up at gun point sometime yesterday. And particularly, on the eve of Good Friday knowing very well that he would be kept in police custody until after Monday, is most inhumane, unacceptable, backward and smacks of abuse of police powers”. Portions of the Mr. Dafeamekpor’s statement read.

However the police has denied arresting the suspect at gun point. The suspect is expected to report back to the police on Tuesday April 6, 2021
