Newswiregh.com has captured a press release signed by the public relations officer of the Western Regional Coordinating Council, denying a letter dated 15th September, 2021 allegedly from the Regional Coordinating Council directing Municipal District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) and Metropolitan Municipal District Chief Directors (MMDCDs) in the Western Region to contribute some amount of monies to support the final funeral rites of the father of the Western Regional Minister, Hon. Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah.
In the press release, the Western Regional Minister said his attention has been drawn to a letter dated 15th September 2021, instructing Municipal District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) and Metropolitan Municipal District Chief Directors (MMDCDs) in the region to contribute money to support his father, Nana Boanyina Adusei Mensah II funeral rites in the Ashanti Region.
The release noted that the Regional Minister has not instructed any Hon. Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executive (MMDCEs) to make any payment in support of his father’s funeral.
He is therefore pleading with the public to disregard and consider as not true any such information as the purported letter did not have the seal of the Regional Coordinating Council.
The alleged letter which has gone viral has the letterhead of the Western Regional Coordinating Council dated September 15, 2021, and signed by the Chief Director/RCD, Fredrick Agyemang, directing all the 14 assemblies in the Western Region to contribute a total of GH¢ 49,000 towards the funeral.
It also asked the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA), Prestea Huni Valley Municipal, Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipal, Ellembelle District and Effia Kwesiminstim Municipal Assemblies to pay GH¢5,000 each.
Ahanta West Municipal, Wassa Amenfi East Municipal, Wassa Amenfi West Municipal and Jomoro Assemblies [are to pay] GH¢3,500 each.
Wassa East District, Shama District, Wassa Amenfi Central District, Nzema East Municipal and Mpohor District Assemblies [are to pay] GH¢2,000 each.
The denied letter supposedly signed by the Chief Director instructs all monies to be paid to the Regional Accountant – WRCC (Room 19) by close of work on Monday, September 20, 2021.
