Professor Ransford Gyampo, a political analyst, has urged the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo-Dampare, to arrest Members of Parliament involved in the destruction of state property during a violent confrontation at the Appointments Committee.
The incident occurred during the ministerial vetting on January 30, when some lawmakers vandalized microphones and tables in protest against the Majority caucus’ decision to proceed with the process.
In an interview with Accra-based TV3, Prof. Gyampo stated, “I have said that Dampare is on record to have arrested Members of Parliament and government officials for violating traffic rules. And it is not possible for people to destroy public property or state property and for us to sweep it under the carpet.”
He emphasized that the Majority must not allow the Minority group to dictate parliamentary proceedings, adding, “Democracy is about majority rule. The majority group must be commended for being tolerant, but that tolerance must not be taken for granted.”
Prof. Gyampo called for accountability, saying, “We should ask Dampare to arrest those culpable for destroying properties that we used our taxes to procure.”
