The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has issued a firm warning to its members and aspiring candidates not to engage in campaigns or solicit for internal positions until official nominations are opened.
In a May 14 press release signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party emphasized that the move is part of efforts to uphold integrity and fairness as it prepares for the 2028 general elections.
“Until official nominations are duly opened, no individual is permitted to engage party executives or party structures in any form of campaigning or soliciting support for internal positions,” the statement declared.
The directive, described as essential to preserving party unity and discipline, comes as interest grows around potential internal contests in the lead-up to the next national vote.
“Premature engagements not only undermine the authority of the Party’s organs but also risk disrupting the careful and strategic efforts currently underway to reposition the Party for victory in the 2028 general elections,” it added.
The NPP leadership called on all stakeholders to respect the process and support ongoing internal reforms aimed at strengthening the party’s electoral prospects.
“Let us remain focused and supportive of the internal reforms and efforts being spearheaded by the leadership to build a more formidable and cohesive Party.”
Reaffirming its commitment to transparency, inclusiveness, fairness, and due process, the party promised to release detailed timelines and nomination guidelines in due course.
“The Party remains committed to transparency, inclusiveness, fairness and due process, and it will provide timely updates on all relevant timelines and guidelines when nominations are officially opened,” the statement said.
