An uncompleted fuel station at Ejura Babasso in the Ashanti Region became the scene of a fatal fire outbreak on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, resulting in the tragic death of a 25-year-old man.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), in a statement, confirmed that the fire, which occurred near the cemetery at block number E 6264, was reported around 12:25 p.m. A distress call prompted a swift response from the Ejura Fire Station, led by Station Officer I Daniels Moah. The fire crew arrived within six minutes, only to find the fuel station fully engulfed in flames.
Firefighters battled the blaze, bringing it under control within 10 minutes and completely extinguishing it by 12:55 p.m. using water. Despite their swift action, the fire claimed the life of Ali Abubakari, whose charred body was later handed over to the Ejura Police Command for further investigation.
According to the GNFS, the structure was being used to store gallons of petrol. Six bags of beans were also partially burnt in the fire, while another six were salvaged by the firefighting crew.
The GNFS has launched a full investigation into the cause of the fire and is urging the public to refrain from storing or dispensing petroleum products in unauthorized or unsafe structures.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased and reaffirm our commitment to protecting lives and property through timely and professional emergency response,” the release concluded.
