The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced that the government has fully settled all outstanding arrears of the Capitation Grant for public basic schools.
A statement signed by Head of Public Relations, GES, Mr Daniel Fenyi, said the payment covers the period from 2023 to date and is a demonstration of the government’s commitment to the effective operation of basic education nationwide.
The Capitation Grant, the statement noted, plays a critical role in managing public basic schools by supporting the procurement of teaching and learning materials, minor repairs, and other essential school-level activities.
It added that timely disbursement empowers headteachers to deliver quality education with increased autonomy and accountability. GES expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance for prioritising the payment despite prevailing economic pressures.
“We further commend all heads of basic schools for their patience and continued dedication in ensuring that teaching and learning have remained uninterrupted, regardless,” it said.
GES urged school leaders to utilise the funds responsibly and in accordance with ocial guidelines.
According to the statement, monitoring teams at district and regional levels will intensify supervision to ensure compliance and value for money. “GES remains committed to working with all stakeholders to improve learning outcomes, enhance school management systems, and ensure the delivery of inclusive, equitable, and quality education for every Ghanaian child.”
