In a major narcotics interdiction operation, the Ghana Police Service has intercepted a truck loaded with more than 3,000 slabs of plant material suspected to be cannabis in the Greater Accra Region, authorities have confirmed.
According to a statement issued by the Tema Regional Police Command, the intelligence-led operation was conducted in the early hours of February 15, 2026, when officers from the Regional Patrols Unit stopped a Sinotruk tipper truck with registration number GN 993-14 at Sege Akpla Manya.
Although the vehicle was reportedly laden with fertilizer sacks, a closer inspection revealed 3,009 compressed slabs of plant material believed to be cannabis hidden inside. Upon spotting the police, the driver reportedly abandoned the truck and fled the scene.
The truck and its contents have since been impounded at the Tema Regional Police Headquarters as investigations continue, with efforts underway to identify and apprehend the driver and determine the vehicle’s ownership.
Bribe attempt thwarted
In a related development, the police said that on February 16, 2026, at about 7:10 p.m., two men Victor Asigbey (40) and Peter Asigbey (35) were arrested at the Regional Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Office in Tema for allegedly attempting to bribe officers handling the case.
The suspects are accused of offering GH¢150,000 in cash to influence officers to release the truck and its suspected narcotics. The money was seized by police and is now being retained as evidence.
Both men remain in police custody and are assisting with ongoing investigations, with plans to arraign them in court on charges related to bribery and obstruction of justice.

The Tema Regional Police Command has reiterated its commitment to combating narcotics-related crimes and underscored the importance of upholding integrity and professionalism in all operations.
This seizure adds to the Police Service’s recent efforts to stem the trafficking of illegal drugs in Ghana, reflecting ongoing intelligence-driven enforcement actions across the country.
