In a decisive move to prevent potential fire disasters, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has shut down a mobile mini restaurant operating at the Total Filling Station on Oxford Street in Osu, Accra.
The restaurant’s proximity to fuel pumps and use of LPG posed a significant fire hazard, sparking immediate action from the fire service.
A viral video circulating on social media showed the restaurant’s open flames perilously close to the fuel pumps, prompting the GNFS to take swift action.
In a statement, DO I Desmond Ackah, Public Relations Officer of the GNFS said, “The use of LPG, open flames, or any spark-generating activity in high-risk zones like fuel stations is strictly prohibited and punishable by law.”
Acting Chief Fire Officer DCFO Daniella Mawusi Ntow-Sapong has launched a nationwide inspection of fuel and gas stations to ensure compliance with fire safety regulations.
“Individuals or businesses found breaching fire safety protocols will face strict legal consequences,” she warned.
The GNFS is committed to collaborating with fuel and gas station operators to enforce safety standards and protect the public. Citizens are urged to remain vigilant and report any hazardous practices to the authorities.
