In a crackdown aimed at enhancing national security, the Ghana Immigration Service has rounded up more than 2,200 foreign beggars from key parts of Accra.
The operation, carried out in the early hours of Friday, May 16, led to the arrest of 2,241 individuals, including 384 adult males, 525 adult females, 577 boys, and 755 girls.
Addressing the press, Head of Public Relations for the Service, Michael Amoako-Atta, said the arrests were made at major hotspots including the Kotoka International Airport, Madina, Kaneshie, Kwame Nkrumah Circle, and Abossey Okai.
“These persons are currently undergoing profiling, after which buses will transport them to their countries of origin,” he noted.
The Service says the swoop is part of broader measures to eliminate potential national security threats posed by the growing number of undocumented foreign nationals in the capital.
