President John Mahama announced today that a manhunt has been launched for suspects in the National Sports Authority (NSA) financial scandal who have absconded.
President John Mahama revealed during his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) in his second term that some suspects involved in the National Sports Authority (NSA) financial scandal have absconded.
The scandal is linked to allegations of “ghost names” on the NSA’s payroll, which were uncovered during an investigation. The probe found that several individuals, including some who were deceased or had never worked for the NSA, were receiving salaries and benefits from the authority.
Speaking in Parliament on Thursday, February 27, Mahama stated that he had directed security agencies to declare the absconded suspects wanted.
“Those implicated in the scandal must be held accountable, as state resources cannot be looted with impunity,” he emphasized.
The President stressed that corruption would not be tolerated, noting that “such brazen stealing of state resources should not go unpunished.” He vowed that his government would ensure justice was served.
Mahama assured Ghanaians that his administration remained committed to fighting corruption and strengthening institutions to prevent financial mismanagement. Efforts were already underway to track down the absconded suspects and bring them before the law.
The President urged all relevant authorities to cooperate in retrieving stolen funds and preventing similar occurrences in the future.
He reassured the nation that his government would not tolerate corruption, promising “strict enforcement of laws to protect public resources.”
